Hello all,

just came to know of this Forum and glad to join - just what I was looking for! :-)

I have just started building equipment for a Landsknecht/Arkebusier, doing where I have some experience at first - shoes. I tried a kind of prototype of a Kuhmaulschuh of the 1st half of the 16th century after finds from the Netherlands (fastening buckle is still missing) according to O. Goubitz reconstruction (if you look closely you can also see that I made a little mistake with the way the rand is sewn - stupid me :-P ):

Looking forward to learn a lot here!

Regards,

Martin

This is very nice work! Have you continued doing shoes?

Yes, I did, although not so much on the Renaissance side. Please check sutor.jimdo.com for pics and details.

Roughly how much time did it take to create these shoes?

Hm, good question. I would estimate between 20 and 30 hours per pair. But that was a first each, so I would expect about 18- 20 hours for making another pair of the same cut and size. Must remember to check time the next time I get around to make  some. But that may be a while as I'm in Canada for most of the next year or so for work reasons.

20-30 hrs sounds reasonable for a first pair. If you decide to take on orders I'm sure there are people willing to buy.

Yes, I try to document my work as much as possible now - collect sources, time it, save patterns, date them, take pictures, etc.

I might once I'm back from Montreal again next year, but until then it's quite undoable because of work :-P

Finally finished another, more closed type of Kuhmal shoe some days ago. This one comes from the wreck of the Mary Rose, so can be dated to before 1545. For constructional details please check http://sutor.jimdo.com/shoes/renaissance-shoes/mary-rose-type-2-4/

Nice, looks really good!
